FOCUS QUESTION
Review past lesson on sound by way of questioning.
Students do you recall what the states of matter are? Which of the states of matter do the rulers represent. (solid)
Do you believe sound is able to travel through the other states of matter?
Let's do some experiments to find out.
You will perform experiments in your groups with bottles having different volumes of water in each of the bottles. One of the five (5) bottles will remain empty (full of air).
You will knock the top edge and/or blow over the mouth of each bottle, with the same force. Record your observations and draw conclusion.
Now half fill a drinking glass and gently knock the side of the glass above the water level with a metal spoon or knife. Record your observation. Knock the area below the water level then record and offer simple explanation for your observation.
Let's listen to this video clip below to learn more about how sounds travel.

Let us read this chart aloud that sums out the information we learnt.
Present your conclusion of the experiments in your groups.
